Video: Disney Magic ship to cruise into Belfast in 2019
A DISNEY-owned cruise liner is set to dock in Belfast next year, bringing it with 3,650 passengers and crew.
Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Rapunzel and a host of other Disney stars will sail into Belfast Harbour in the autumn of 2019 as the luxury liner ‘Disney Magic' arrives as part of a seven-night UK cruise.
The Belfast visit is the first time a ship from Disney Cruise Lines, a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company, will dock in the north.
The ‘Disney Magic’ ship, which is painted in Mickey Mouse-inspired colours, will arrive in Belfast Harbour for one day next September.
Guests onboard the 11-deck cruise liner can enjoy Disney inspired live shows in the Walt Disney Theatre, open-air music and dance extravaganza deck parties, and, new this year, Rapunzel’s Royal Table, a restaurant inspired by the Disney hit animation.
Tony McAuley from Belfast Harbour said the announcement is a "massive boost" for the city and the result of more than a year’s work with Excursions Ireland and Hamilton Shipping.
“This working relationship ensured that the logistics, facilities and on-shore excursions met the high standard expected by Disney Cruises, and evidence of the working relationship gave them confidence in our ability to deliver. We continue to be committed to bringing cruise ships and tourists to Northern Ireland, and adding Disney Cruise Lines to the global brands which already call in Belfast is a testament to the tourism offer and the facilities we have in Belfast Harbour."
The arrival of the Disney cruise liner comes just a week after it was confirmed 2018 will be a record cruise season, with over 200,000 passengers visiting Belfast Harbour. In all 117 cruise ships are to dock in Belfast, with almost 50,000 more visitors due in comparison to the numbers recorded in 2017.
