DANSKE Bank has become the first financial institution in the north to partner with two more digital solutions partners to offer technology which enables customers to make purchases directly in a safe, simple and convenient way.

It has confirmed that the both the Samsung Pay digital wallet and Garmin Pay are now available to customers, which it believes will make everyday banking easier.

It follows Danske also being a trailblazer last year when it introduced Fitbit Pay, where customers could use their wearable device to make purchases at thousands of stores where contactless payments are already accepted.

"This is another important development for us," says Søren Rode Andreasen, Danske Bank’s Belfast-based chief digital officer.

“We are committed to providing great customer experiences and part of this is offering digital solutions that make everyday banking easier.

"Our ambition is to be known as a bank with a multi-channel approach, we continue to offer customers choice and they will decide what works best for them, and when – be that digital channels, visits to branches or telephone solutions.”

Danske Bank users can launch Samsung Pay with a simple swipe from the bottom edge of their screen to bring up the last used credit or debit card, use their iris, pin or fingerprint to prove their identity, and tap their device on a payment terminal to make a payment.

Kyle Brown, head of technology, services and launch management at Samsung Electronics, said: “We’re excited to roll out Samsung Pay to the first Northern Ireland bank, Danske Bank.

"In terms of what the future holds for Samsung Pay, we are in the process of working with more and more banks, to enable as many Samsung users to benefit from the service as possible, as we move towards a more connected world.”

And Danske Bank customers with a Garmin Vivoactive3 or Forerunner 645 Music wearable device will become the first users to be able to add a debit card or credit card, enabling them to make payments on the go directly from their wrist.
