KILKEEL based Bedwin Soft Furnishing has opened a new £250,000 factory creating five jobs.

Bedwin has officially opened its new factory at Harbour Road Kilkeel and the increased production space has enabled the company to win new lucrative contracts.

New notable contracts include; a two story fit-out for Liberty Insurance in Blanchardstown Dublin, alongside contracts at Queen’s University, the furnishing of a new build primary school at St Bronagh’s, Rostrevor, and a new ambulance centre in Enniskillen.

A family business, Bedwin was founded by Ossie and Pamela Wallace in April 1984 and since then, the business has grown extensively with the acquisition of Walker’s Soft Furnishings in Banbridge.

Sales director Chris Wallace said there are exciting times ahead for the company.

"We now plan to increase manufacturing space this year with a new adjoining premises which will give us an additional 2000 sq ft."

"Moreover, in order to meet the needs of new contract wins, we are actively looking to employ 2 new interior designers in addition with newly placed office and sales staff. With the total workforce currently sitting at 21, the new jobs will have the workforce at 26. This represents significant growth and a bright future for the business. In order to maintain our market share we knew that investment in equipment, premises and people was key, so this latest announcement represents just that."
