ONE of the north's leading insurance firms is creating 20 new jobs in response to strong growth in the past year.

Hughes Insurance is recruiting 20 full-time positions in line with the growth of the company's personal lines business which it states, has accelerated during the past six months of 2017.

The recruitment drive will ensure the business is well resourced with sales and service staff for next year, as the Newtownards based brokerage expands its share of the insurance market in Northern Ireland.

Chief executive David Egan explained that the recruitment process has already begun and is in response to demand in the market.

"Hughes Insurance is Northern Ireland’s best known insurance brand and our performance over the last six months, together with forecast growth in 2018, has resulted in a commitment to invest in 20 new full-time employees," he said.

Chairman Richard Fulton added: “It’s an exciting time to drive the business forward. We have ambitious plans for 2018 that will be delivered by a best-in-class team who are 100% committed to growing our footprint in this market.”

Established in 1977, Hughes Insurance is one of the north's leading brokers, employing 200 staff across its six locations in Newtownards, Belfast, Coleraine, Derry, Glengormley and Portadown.

Earlier this year the business underwent a management restructure when David Egan, the former managing director of Post Insurance, appointed as chief executive and Richard Fulton joining the executive team as chairman. Mr Fulton has previously held a range of board level appointments across and advised many of Northern Ireland’s best known companies including First Derivatives, Phoenix Natural Gas and Galen Pharmaceuticals.
