Fitbit Pay launches for Danske Bank customers

DANSKE Bank has become the first of the main Northern Ireland banks to launch Fitbit Pay for its customers.

Customers with a Fitbit Ionic device can add their Danske Bank Mastercard debit card or credit card to their device, enabling them to make payments on the go directly from their wrist.

Fitbit Pay brings convenience and further freedom to customers who will be able to use it to make purchases at thousands of stores where contactless payments are already accepted.

Fitbit Pay transactions have enhanced safeguards and, by using an industry standard platform, a user’s card information is never revealed or shared with merchants or Fitbit. A protected PIN is also chosen by the user during device set-up for an added layer of protection.

Customers can register their card through the Fitbit app and use it immediately.

Kris Thompson, digital channels manager at Danske Bank, said: “It is great to be the first local bank to introduce this service to Northern Ireland, and in fact to be one of the first banks in the world to adopt it.

"We are always looking for new digital solutions to make everyday life easier for our customers. It will provide another option for them to make a payment while on the move, whilst not necessarily carrying their wallet, purse or smartphone.”
