THE old post office in Lisbane village in Co Down has been acquired by a private buyer.

Dating back to the 1840s, the Grade II-listed property operated as a post office until the early 1990s, but lay derelict for a number of years until it was sold and converted into tearooms and a gift shop in 2004.

Osborne King sold the property on behalf of its former owners, husband and wife team Alison and Trevor Smylie.

Mark Carron from Osborne King said: “There was a strong degree of interest in this thriving business which is also a well-known landmark within the locality benefitting from a high volume of passing trade.

"This was reflected in the fact that the sale figure achieved as well as the freehold business being sold in a short marketing period. The new owners have acquired a thriving business and charming property full of character that offers excellent scope for future business development.”

The commercial property, which includes car parking for up to 50 vehicles, a central courtyard and enclosed garden area with additional seating, was sold by private treaty.
