ONE of the north's leading bakeries has launched a new range of low-calorie breads.

Irwin’s Bakery in Portadown, has secured listings for its new range of ‘Better You’ pan breads in 630 stores across Northern Ireland, including Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's.

The 'Better You' range, which is now available in multiples and convenience stores across the north, includes a white and wholemeal loaf, both of which are low in sugar and fat.

With research showing 40 per cent of consumers choose food with health in mind and 62 per cent of households are concerned about sugar consumption, the Co Armagh bakery developed the range to meet this consumer need.

Ruth Sloan from Irwin's said the new range gives shoppers another option in the bread aisle.

"Our ethos at Irwin’s Bakery is to promote a healthy lifestyle, with our breads very much a part of this - therefore we keep health as a key focus when investing in new product development and creating new lines. As well as being low in sugar, the white loaf is a source of protein and the wholemeal is high in fibre."

“It is great to secure these listings, which strengthen our existing relationships with retailers across NI – and shows an appetite from shoppers for lower-calorie versions of our popular pan breads," she added.

Irwin’s Better You White and Better You Wholemeal are now available at Asda, Centra, Iceland, Mace, Sainsbury’s, Spar, SuperValu and Tesco.
