A BELFAST technology firm is increasing its growth into international the exports market and creating five new jobs.

Amphion Semiconductor, which provides video codec technology that enables ultra-high definition video to be decoded and displayed on digital TVs, is taking on the major investment, which it says will extend the company’s capability and assist it to further increase export sales.

The company's technology is further used in set-top boxes, automotive infotainment systems, drones, surveillance and virtual reality applications.

Following a successful management buyout in 2015 and building upon impressive growth in international markets, the investment is being supported by Invest Northern Ireland ,who will provide £69,000 of support towards the five new positions.

The jobs being recruited within the engineering team will generate £220,000 annually in additional salaries, an average of £44,000.

Amphion CEO Stephen Farson said the new roles will enable the company to "stay at the forefront of leading edge technology in our field".

“We have ambitious plans to grow the company over the next five years, and increase exports particularly in the Asian market which presents a significant opportunity for our advanced video codec solutions.”

Invest NI director of technology and services Brioan Dologhan said the investment will help take Amphion to "the next level".

“The five new roles will enable Amphion to increase its engineering team and will include both graduate level and experienced positions. The assistance offered will also help the company target new export markets particularly in the US, Asia and across Europe."
