AN iconic south Belfast office building is to set to be transformed into nine new luxury apartments.

Malone Exchange on the Lisburn Road is the latest development to be taken on by the Portland Property Group, owned by Robert Mulligan and Shane Woods and together the hope to see several other housing schemes unfold across the north in the near future.

For their latest project the pair plan to turn the listed office block into high specification luxury apartments in a sympathetic way that respects and embraces the rich history of the building. The development is set to include nine apartments and adds to two previous schemes at Wellington Park and one on Annadale Embankment carried out by the young investment team.

Mr Mulligan, who has been involved in property development in London from a young age, said the Malone Exchange project offered the opportunity to bring "something new" to the market.

"The building has been part of the fabric of the Lisburn road for decades and the team want to utilise its many attributes to give each apartment a piece of history."

“You can’t create buildings like this, there is a personality and a feeling you get from owning a part of something unique with an abundance of soul. The limited number of units available has already created quite a stir. Prospective buyers like the idea of what we are doing and our vision for the property," he added.

Malone Exchange will be offered for sale by Belfast and north Down estate agents Fetherston Clements who described it as "one of the most sought after developments in Belfast".

"Having successfully worked with Robert and Shane on their last two schemes, the first of which sold out pre completion. We are delighted to continue our relationship with Portland Property Group and we are very confident they will deliver a unique product to the market," Mike Fetherston added.
