THE GAUNTLET has been thrown down to Belfast manufacturers to better last year's 11th place finish in the UK's largest engineering exhibition.

Registrations have now opened for , UK's largest annual gathering of advanced engineering professionals.

In 2016 Belfast placed 11th overall out of UK cities for visitors and exhibitors, with hopes it can improve upon that finish and crack the top 10 this time around.

Last year over 100 engineers from the area visited the show, with many Belfast engineering companies also exhibiting, including leading firms such as Laser Prototypes Europe.

Alison Willis, industrial divisional director at event organisers Easyfairs, said they were hoping the city would improve upon last year's performance.

"Manufacturers from Belfast put on a real show of strength last year and demonstrated the fantastic range of capabilities and amazing innovations the area has to offer when it comes to advanced engineering. This year we’re hoping they’ll surpass themselves whilst showcasing their expertise to a primed audience of motivated and ready to buy attendees interested in sourcing products and solutions.”

Campbell Evans of Laser Prototypes Europe, Belfast, added:

“Advanced Engineering is the highlight of the UK engineering calendar. We’re looking forward to showcasing our capabilities and products to a huge audience of manufacturers, and at the same time picking up a few ideas along the way."
