An award-winning Co Down food company has secured a new deal to supply UK supermarket giant Tesco.

Comber firm Mash Direct has landed a contract which will see five of its products go 73 Tesco stores across England from this week.

The family-owned firm, headed by Martin Hamilton and his wife Tracy already has its products available in over 160 Tesco outlets across Scotland and Northern Ireland and an additional 130 stores in the Republic of Ireland.

The latest contract follows just a month after Mash Direct secured a similar deal with Asda to supply five lines of its award-winning produce to Northern Ireland stores.

Sales director, Lance Hamilton said the announcement built on the exisiting strong relationship with Tesco.

“This is such a great opportunity for us to showcase the heritage varieties of vegetables on our family farm, grown specifically for their superior flavour."

"We are looking forward to building our reputation in these new stores,|" he added.

Mash Direct is the market leader in quality, convenient ‘field to fork’ vegetable and potato dishes. Last year the firm, founded in 2004 reported sales just shy of £15 million as well as an increase in both its turnover and profit.

The company, which employs 163 staff is now the biggest brand in the chilled side-dish category of the supermarket sector in Britain and Ireland.
