Already the business development agency has 14 international offices including locations in Dublin, London, Brussels and Düsseldorf office within Europe.

In North America Invest NI has offices in Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Boston, but until now no presence in Canada.

Invest NI also has listed offices in Dubai, Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Tokyo and two Chinese locations in Shanghai and Beijing.

The announcement of the new Canadian office comes after Invest NI chief executive Alastair Hamilton completed a five-day visit programme to North America, including New York, Boston and Toronto.

Mr Hamilton was meeting with potential new investors and last week announced American financial technology company Redline Trading Solutions has chosen Belfast as the location for a new global support centre, creating up to 20 jobs.

Redline, who have headquarters in Boston and offices in New York, London, Hong Kong, chose Belfast over other locations in Britain, the Republic and Asia for the support centre.
