ENERGY supply firm SSE Airtricity has entered into an agreement to acquire 50 per cent of Fusion Heating, one of the leading energy services contractors in Northern Ireland.

Fusion Heating has been in business for more than 10 years and employs nearly 70 people at its base at Castlereagh, including gas engineers, plumbers, electricians and joiners.

It works with both private and public sector customers to instal, service and repair gas and oil central heating boilers and systems. The company also offers full domestic electrical contracting services, and is also involved in the supply and fit-out of bathrooms.

In 2013 Fusion was selected to work as SSE Airtricity’s delivery partner for its growing energy services brand, and the acquisition by SSE Airtricity of 50 per cent of Fusion complements and enhances its services in the competitive energy markets for home and business customers, and further cements its position as a leading provider of energy services.

As part of the agreement, the existing Fusion Heating management team will continue to lead the business.

David Manning, director of home energy at SSE Airtricity, said: “The experienced team at Fusion Heating has played an invaluable role in supporting that growth, and this acquisition demonstrates the strength so far of our partnership, which has been built on our shared values, including a commitment to safety, delivering value for money for customers, and providing outstanding customer service at all times.”

Bill Cherry, managing director of Fusion Heating, added: “Having SSE Airtricity purchase shares in our company makes sense for our staff and our customers.

"Through this new partnership we will develop new, distinctive and unique customer offerings, opening up huge growth possibilities for Fusion and for SSE Airtricity. We are very excited about the future and the potential for further growth.”

As well as supplying gas to customers in the Greater Belfast natural gas network, SSE Airtricity also operates in the Ten Towns gas supply network and has been named as the commissioning supplier for the new Gas to the West network, currently being developed.
