BELFAST City Airport will be offering a £30,000 marketing prize in search of the north’s best food and drink product.

Hot on the heels of a successful Year of Food and Drink campaign throughout Northern Ireland last year, the Belfast City has partnered with Food NI and borough councils to provide substantial marketing support and brand visibility at the airport for the winner.

Starting today and running until March 3, each of the north’s 11 borough councils will be selecting three products from each area to progress through to the next stage of the competition.

The chosen products will feature on the airports Facebook page, with the most popular entrants progressing to the final where they will be subjected to a rigorous tasting session by a panel of food and drink experts.

With nearly 2.7 million passengers passing through its doors each year, the winner will gain enormous exposure for their product.

Belfast City Airport’s commercial marketing director Katy Best said the contest was focused on continuing the success of 2016 for food and drink across the north.

"The continued growth of our local food and drink trade is hugely important to the Northern Irish tourism industry and the airport is a committed champion of our local producers," she said.

"The competition will help to significantly raise the profile of all the short-listed products, not just the winner, and we are working closely with all local councils to ensure the geographical reach of the competition extends right across Northern Ireland."

Producers should submit their entries via email to cortney@lighthouseni.com.
