LEISURE airline Jet2.com is to recruit almost 1,000 new staff, including pilots, cabin crew and engineers - and 50 of the posts will be in Belfast.

The company is holding a number of road shows in the coming weeks ahead of taking on 180 pilots, 700 cabin crew and more than 80 engineers.

One of those recruitment road shows takes place this Thursday (September 1) in the Maldron Hotel at Belfast International airport (10am to 6pm).

The investment follows the recent addition of an eighth UK base in Birmingham, alongside the acquisition of 30 new aircraft.

Earlier this year Jet2.com and Jet2holidays - which flies to 17 destinations from Belfast International Airport - launched its biggest ever flights and holidays programme for summer 2017 from Aldergrove, with more flights and more seats to a range of exciting sunshine hotspots including brand new exclusive destination, the Costa Brava (Girona).

Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: "We have exciting plans to expand the number of destinations we fly to, as well as the number of UK bases we fly from, and this means that our team is growing all the time."

He added: “Our family-friendly formula is clearly working with customers and it means that we’re one of the UK’s fastest growing airlines.

"So if you’re a pilot, engineer or aspiring cabin crew, and want to join the team of the UK’s favourite airline, then we’d be delighted to see you at our Belfast road show.”

Jet2.com has a fleet of 63 aircraft flying to more than 220 routes to popular destinations in the Mediterranean, Canary Islands and a wealth of European cities.
