BELFAST-based Portview Fit-Out has completed a major £1.6 million job to transform a store on London's Regent Street.

The firm partnered with Househam Henderson architects to create Kate Spade New York's largest UK stpre.

The 600m outlet, spread over two floors carries the billion-dollar brand’s full product assortment, ranging from homeware to handbags to children's clothes.

It is the first time the entire Kate Spade world has been brought under one roof in Europe.

The fit-out includes a spectacular curved staircase requiring an extensive section of the first floor to be cut out to accommodate it.

The staircase itself was created collaboratively by the client and contract teams from construction drawings, then fabricated in steel with walnut treads and handrails and installed in sequenced phases in order to meet the tight timescales for completion.

Joinery and cabinet work for the first floor were designed in the US by American Millwork and Cabinetry and fitted by Portview.

The unique lighting scheme sourced Sputnik fittings from the US which were rewired for local currents, giving the store a distinctive American ambience.

Décor was designed to reflect the building’s heritage as a home, with some quirky elements such as hand-painted floor to ceiling stripes on the curved walls surrounding the staircase.

Dressed with the brand's own furniture and featuring Kate Spade's signature touches, local influences are also prominent, with little black cabs and red double-decker buses adding extra interest to the shelves.

Portview contracts manager PJ Ward said: “We aim to make everyone’s job easier, including our own, so we spent time planning the sequence of this fit-out in order that we could meet the timescale, coordinate deliveries and cause as little disruption as possible for the other tenants in the building. We are very proud of the teamwork that went into making this fit-out possible."
