CLANMIL Housing Group has reported a 10 per cent rise in turnover over the past year as revenues reached £27.15 million.

The organisation completed and handed over 133 new homes over the 12 months.

Work continued on 424 homes already on site while a further 215 dwellings were started.

Financials for the year to March 2016 showed a surplus on ordinary activities of £2.6m while it was able to retain £16m in reserves to carry forward.

Looking at the group's overall financial position, funds reached more than £385m once liabilities were subtracted from assets.

During the year, Clanmill invested £7m in improvements and maintenance of existing properties.

Clanmil chairman Steve Amos and chief executive Clare McCarty said it had been "a busy year and a challenging one".

"Rising house prices and private rents, together with cuts in benefits, make finding a home that is affordable increasingly difficult, and we are passionate about doing right by those who need a home." they said.

"In 2015/16 we continued to provide homes for sale - both outright sale and through shared ownership - and also let some homes at market rates.

"This generated income to help us house and support more people from the waiting list."

Clanmil currently owns and manages around 4,000 houses in the north - providing homes for around 8,000 people.

During the financial year, it brought Hearth Housing Association into the group.

"Hearth specialises in bringing historic buildings back into use as social housing and, while they now have the assurance of Clanmil's systems and structures, we in turn can call on their expertise in projects such as the refurbishment of the listed former blood bank building in Durham Street, Belfast," added Mr Amos and Ms McCarty.

"We move forward into 2016/17 determined to carry on creating places where people want to live and supporting them to prosper," they added.
