NEWRY fit-out firm Mac-Interiors is targeting growth after securing contracts worth €46 million (£36.7m) in the Republic so far this year.

The company specialises in the refurbishment and fit-out of office space and commercial buildings.

In addition to its work south of the border, Mac-Interiors has also completed its first major contract of the year in Belfast after deliver a six-figure project to fit out the Davy Private Clients’ offices on Donegall Square in the city centre.

Established in 2002, the firm has office in Newry, Dublin, London and Hamburg and employs a direct workforce of 65.

That includes 12 new staff recruited to deal with the recent run of new business wins.

Mac-Interiors managing director Paul McKenna said an increased workload in Belfast was also driving growth.

"Over the past year we have seen an increase in the number of new contracts coming to market in Belfast," he said.

"The quality of Grade A office space is improving but there is still a major shortfall and as a result of this, more companies are choosing to refurbish existing offices and fit out new space.

“Our most recent work in Belfast has been with the Davy Private Clients in the city centre. We fitted out two floors of Donegall House, totalling 10,000 sq ft of office space. Work included a full refurbishment of office space, meeting rooms and breakout areas. Some of the new office features include a mechanical air conditioning and ventilation system, new electrical services installation, partitions and ceilings with high-spec feature joinery.”

The firm said 2016 had seen a "a record start to the year for the company" in terms of sales.

“Since the beginning of the year we’ve won a significant number of high level contracts across Ireland," said Mr McKenna.

"These include refurbishment contracts with large technology companies in Dublin such as Oracle and Hubspot, along with financial providers FIL and Aercap. We are also carrying out extensive renovations to the Waterloo Exchange building in Dublin. We had a very successful year last year and 2016 is already shaping up to be even busier.

“Belfast is also attracting a lot of investment with a number of sites being snapped up by large investors. We are really pleased to be active in Belfast again and have some major projects lined up over the next few months,” he said.

Among Mac-Interiors previous work in Northern Ireland was the fit out of Citi’s landmark headquarters in the Titanic quarter. Other clients have included BT, Grant Thornton and Diageo.
