ELECTRICAL infrastructure firm Omexom has won £9 million worth of contracts to work on substations in Scotland and England.

The Belfast based company - formerly known as Powerteam - provides electricity generation, transmission, transformation and distribution services.

It has secured 12 contracts to extend or refurbish substations across Britain for Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution (SSEPD) and Northern Powergrid.

It brings the value of business secured by Omexom with SSEPD since 2006 to almost £100m, and to more than £12m since 2010 with Northern Powergrid.

Phil Nicholson, business unit general manager for Omexom UK Substations said: “The latest contract wins are another significant step in establishing Omexom as a leading electrical infrastructure provider throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland.

“The huge amount of work we have been awarded by Northern Powergrid and particularly SSEPD in recent years is a reflection of the highest quality and standards continuously delivered by our staff and we look forward to continuing those partnerships with these new projects.”

Chris Straker, transmission connections manager with SSEPD added: "“Everything we do at SSEPD has to benefit our customers – whether those who want to connect to our network or those who want a safe and reliable supply to their home or business. Our work with Omexom has allowed us to do that across our transmission business in Scotland and our distribution network in central southern England.”

Meanwhile, managing director of Omexom in Britain and Ireland Alastair Dawson said: “In a highly competitive market, we are very pleased with our recent successes both in the areas of substation design, construction and refurbishment, and wind farms, which are testament to the satisfaction of our customers and their confidence in Omexom’s ability to deliver work which exceeds the highest of standards.”

The projects will take between six and 18 months to complete, with many already in the early stages of design.
