ONE of Donegal's biggest hotels has gone on the open market with an asking price of €2.3 million (£1.6m).

The 138-bedroom Jackson's Hotel in Ballybofey, a four-star facility just 20 minutes from Strabane, Letterkenny and Donegal Town, also boasts one of the largest conference and banqueting offering in Ireland.

And selling agents DTZ Sherry FitzGerald says there is "already very strong interest" in the hotel.

"This is an unique opportunity to own and run a highly profitable hotel in an outstanding location," Kirsty Rothwell, director and head of trading assets at Sherry FitzGerald said.

The conference and banqueting offering comprises three large banqueting/function suites, three meeting rooms and two boardrooms while the Finn Suite caters for 1,500 theatre style and 700 banqueting style.

The Pyramid Suite provides for 570 theatre style and 500 banqueting style and the Drumbow Suite provides for 240 theatre style and 160 banqueting style. The meeting rooms offer board room and class room style format.

There is also a full leisure centre featuring swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and gymnasium together with ample off street parking.

Jackson's Hotel is set on the Donegal coastline, which forms part of the Wild Atlantic Way which showcases the magnificence of Ireland’s western seaboard.

“The hotel benefits from excellent facilities offering an incoming purchaser an exceptional business opportunity,” Ms Rothwell added.

The sale has come about after Bank of Ireland appointed receivers to the hotel in January.

At the time owner Barry Jackson said the directors of the hotel would ensure it continued to trade as a going concern and the staff would be retained.

In recent months the hotel has benefited from the weakened euro attracting more Northern Ireland and British visitors.
