More than 300 jobs are to be created at a software development and business support company based at Letterkenny in County Donegal.

Pramerica Systems announced plans to create 330 posts in a move which will increase its workforce to more than 1,500. The company is planning a new campus to accommodate its increased workforce which includes employees from both sides of the border.

The technology support company’s new campus will provide facilities for up to 1,800 workers. Work on the new plant is expected to start in the autumn.

Pramerica vice president Gerard Grant said the company has had a “fantastic experience” since it opened in Letterkenny in 2000.

He said: “These are professional jobs, not low paid jobs. There’s a lot of talent out there that we would hope to attract to Donegal.”

The announcement has been welcomed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who said his government was determined that the Republic’s employment recovery would be experienced in every part of Ireland.

“This is a major boost for Donegal and the north west region of Ireland,” he said.

His party colleague and Donegal Fine Gael TD Dinny McGinley said news that the new jobs would be high-end was particularly welcome.

“The decision by Pramerica to create these positions sends out an extremely positive message about the potential for Donegal to provide staff of that calibre,” he said.
