BOMBARDIER is showcasing its finished CS series planes at the Paris Air Show - but does not anticipate any new orders for the Belfast built aircraft at this year's show.

Wings for the CS100 and CS300 planes were designed and built by Bombardier Shorts with the latter set to travel to the city this Friday.

The development of the aircraft has provided work for some 800 people at the Harbour Estate plant but demand has not met expectations while the project has suffered a series of setbacks.

Testing of the CS100 was grounded last year for five months due to engine problems and the CS300 only got off the ground for the first time in March.

The single-aisle airliners are armed at the 100 to 149 seat market and are said to be quiter and more environmentally friendly than their rivals.

Bombardier has received firm orders and commitment for more than 600 of the aircraft, most recently a £1 billion deal from Malaysian start-up Fly Mojo for 20 planes.

The advanced carbon fibre wings for the CSeries are made in Belfast, using a unique, patented technology, which will be showcased this week in Paris.

Enterprise minister Jonathan Bell is at the show to push the north as a hub for the industry by launching the Northern Ireland Aerospace Capability Brochure.

"We have a strong aerospace cluster involving over 60 companies and Invest Northern Ireland has been working closely with this supply base to enhance its competitiveness and support its continued growth," he said.

"The development of this brochure is an important outworking of the NI Aerospace Partnering for Growth Strategy, where local companies committed to doubling the size of the aerospace sector to £2billion sales annually and increasing employment from 8,000 to 12,000 over the next 10 years.

"Paris Air Show provides a valuable platform for this cluster of companies to present their skills, products and services to an international audience and further build on their successes."

The seven local companies exhibiting on the Northern Ireland stand are Moyola Precision Engineering, Magherafelt; J W Kane Precision Engineering, Portadown; Bombardier Aerospace, Belfast; Technical Metals Group, Newtownards; Maydown Precision Engineering, Derry; Vulcanium Metals, Newtownards and European Space Propulsion, Belfast.

Other companies from the north represented at the show include Magellan Aerospace Greyabbey; RLC Group, Crumlin; Thales Air Defence, Belfast; European Space Propulsion, Belfast and B/E Aerospace, Kilkeel.
