A BELFAST eatery is eyeing expansion as it launches its latest attempt to take on the big boys of fast food.

Mikey's Deli is set to release an app to mobile and tablet this week.

The game - Mikey's Burger Drive-By - is similar to those available promoting other restaurants.

But it is just the first step on the road to greater things for the Bridge Street burger joint, with plans to open a second much bigger premises in the future.

Mikey's Deli owner Michael Curran said the app "was taking on the likes of McDonald's and Burger King but will be different as it will reward loyalty".

The concept of the game is to squirt sauce at a series of burgers flying across the inside of the deli.

"What we're planning is to have a leaderboard and then reward people with maybe a free burger or something like that."

It is a novel way of "giving something back to our customers who have been so good to us," added Mr Curran.

Chunky Games which created the app are based in Belfast.

"We really wanted to work with a Northern Ireland company to make the game. We could easily have looked elsewhere," said Mr Curran,

"It was fantastic because they were able to come round to the deli and do everything the way we wanted."

And plans for the future, Mr Curran revealed he had designs on opening a larger second venue complete with waiting staff on rollerskates.

"We have viewed a number of units, but nothing has been suitable yet, " he said, "but it is something we are definitely planning to do in the near future.

"Belfast been so good to us. We have faced problems since we opened with the flag protests and other things but have always done very well."
