Translink appoints CEO

SENIOR manager at Tata Steel is to become the new chief executive of Translink.

Chris Conway will take over from September following the departure of David Strahan.

He is managing director of Tata's sales and distribution business in Ireland.

Mr Strahan announced earlier this year he was leaving the post to go into preaching. Translink chairman John Trethowan said Mr Conway was "an experienced and skilled individual". "He is the right person to lead Translink, one of Northern Ireland's most high profile businesses which provides an essential service to so many," he said.

A Translink spokeswoman said the new chief executive's salary would be around £156,000.

The post has previously carried a salary of almost £200,000.
