Meat plant director banned

A FORMER director of the Co Fermanagh firm previously feted by ministers Michelle O'Neill and Arlene Foster has been banned from the boardroom for six years.

Aidan Rothwell (39), from Behey in Cavan, was a director of Tenderlean Ltd.

It manufactured prepackaged meat products at a processing facility in Derrylin, which were sold to retailers across Ireland.

It also sold meat products directly to caterers and the general public through a farm shop attached to the factory premises. Tenderlean entered administration in June 2011 with a total estimated deficiency of £2,198,650.

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) had previously accepted a disqualification undertaking for nine years from another director of the company while proceedings are continuing against one other director.

Rothwell was said to have failed to pay employees wages totalling £132,534 over a 12-month period, and he allowed the company to trade for more than a year knowing it was insolvent.

He also acted in breach of his duty to the company by permitting its assets to remain uninsured, resulting in a loss of £19,200 following a break-in at the company premises.

Since April 1 last year DETI has accepted 62 disqualification undertakings and the court made 14 orders disqualifying directors.
