PKF-FPM post budget business breakfast

MORE than 200 people attended this year's PKF-FPM/Irish News post-budget breakfast in Newry last week, at which the Chartered Accountants Ireland's director of taxation Brian Keegan was the keynote speaker.

The seminar, now in its 10th year, looked at how Chancellor George Osborne's March 18 Budget, the last of the current parliamentary term, will impact on businesses.

Mr Keegan's speech - in which he urged Stormont politicians not to let the opportunity of having corporation tax-setting powers divested to slip through their fingers - was complemented by detailed financial presentations from PKF-FPM directors Paddy Harty and Malachy McLernon.

The award-winning practice's managing partner Feargal McCormack later joined them for an informative question and answer session.

Mr Harty and Mr McLernon currently hold positions of chair of the NI Tax Committee of Chartered Accountants Ireland and chair of the NI branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation respectively - unique in that both are from the same practice outside any of the big four accountancy firms on the island.
