Zimmer jobs for Galway

ONE of the world leaders in orthopaedic aids is to create 250 jobs with a new manufacturing plant in Galway. Zimmer is to expand its operations in Ireland over the next five years with a facility in Oranmore for the manufacture of orthopaedic implants. The company, which also employs 330 people in Shannon, will invest more than €51million in the site.

The Republic's Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said the manufacturing sector in Ireland has begun to pick up after years of decline during the 2000s. "Companies in this area offer great potential in particular to deliver job creation to regional locations," he said.

The jobs are supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.
