Newspapers appoint editors

NEW editors have been appointed to the Irish Independent and the Sunday Independent newspapers.

The titles' parent company Independent News & Media (INM) have installed group political editor Fionnan Sheahan, left, to the Irish Independent and Cormac Bourke, right, the paper's executive editor to edit its sister Sunday publication.

It comes as the group is also seeking a new editor to the Belfast Telegraph after the announcement that Mike Gilson is to move to the Brighton Argus after five years at the helm at Royal Avenue The new editors have taken up their roles with immediate effect.

Thurles native Mr Sheahan has been political editor for the group since 2013 after six years in the role for the Irish Independent. Mr Bourke from Athy in Co Kildare has been responsible for the daily production and news delivery on the Irish Independent for the past 18 months. He joined the Irish Independent in 2007 as assistant editor, subsequently becoming news editor and most recently executive editor. INM group editor-in-chief Stephen Rae said: "Both new editors have a passion for media and vast experience of news reporting at the highest level. Fionnan and Cormac will bring a fresh perspective to the titles and the delivery of content to our audiences."
