Software company taken over by Toronto group

BELFAST software firm Wellington IT has been taken over by Canadian acquisition company Volaris Group.

Wellington provides IT solutions to credit unions and drinks firms across Ireland.

It is the largest service provider to credit unions, providing IT to 150 branches across the Irish network, helping to deliver member services such as online banking, smart-phone apps, and full access to national clearing.

The company also helps the beverage distribution industry with the management of financials, order processing and stock control.

Customers include the likes of C&C Gleeson, Edward Dillon & Co, Counterpoint and Fox International.

Volaris Group CEO Mark Miller said Wellington IT's "deep understanding of their markets has helped them to deliver solutions to customers that are not only mission-critical, but desirable as well".

"Now as part of Volaris, there is plenty of opportunity for them to learn from and share best practices and experiences with some of our other like-minded businesses. We look forward to supporting Wellington IT in building their business further," he said.

Wellington managing director Alex Dunne said: "The Volaris philosophy of acquiring companies, to build them for the long-term, was very attractive to us and we saw a fit for our company with them right away".

"We are confident that our new home with Volaris can provide new opportunities for our customers and our employees through continued investment in our products and our people."

Wellington IT is headquartered in Belfast and has offices in Dublin, Cork and Warwick.

Toronto-headquartered Volaris acquires "vertical market technology" firms "enabling them to be clear leaders within their focused industry".

It operates in a variety of sectors including agri- food, asset management and logistics, benefits administration, communications, cultural collections management, insurance, justice, marine, people transportation, rental management and communications.
