City centre gets free Wi-Fi

Monaghan and hill Street in Newry city centre are now hooked up to free Wi-Fi after the Department for Social Development shelled out £20,000 and Newry & Mourne District Council another £5,000. Social development Minister nelson McCausland said: "The provision of easy access to digital technology is essential for the future development of our towns and cities, and the availability of free wi-fi in newry will complement previous public realm schemes in the Monaghan Street and hill Street areas, and the major public realm scheme currently under way along the Quays area.

This kind of facility has worked well in other towns and is an extra incentive for shoppers and visitors to spend time in newry centre." Newry mayor Michael Ruane added: "This will mean that those on the move, whether they are tourists or on business, will be able to access all means of communications such as social media, emails and apps in our city centre."
