Andor takeover 'considered'

A proposed £166 million takeover of west Belfast camera maker Andor Technology is "being considered", the company said yesterday. Earlier this month The Irish News revealed that oxford Instruments plc, a leading provider of high-tech tools and systems for industry and research, offered £5 a share to buy the former Queen's University Belfast spin-out. In a statement to the Stock exchange last night Andor said it was considering the acquisition offer from oxford Instruments and it would update shareholders by next Monday, when it is due to publish annual results. Talks between the two parties to any takeover are understood to have been taking place since the summer but news leaked out on November 8 when oxford Instruments published half-yearly financials - a move Andor said was "premature and unhelpful".
