McGuinness and Robinson among leaders due at digital summit

SIX ministers from the Northern Ireland Executive - including Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness - are due at a summit today showcasing the potential of the digital sector.

They will join major ICT employers, universities and financial institutions at the event which will hear about the potential for 20,000 new jobs over the next five to 10 years.

Hosted by representative body Momentum, it will see the group announce its strategy on job creation.

Momentum chairman Rob McConnell said: "Northern Ireland already leads many other regions in the UK and the EU in its commitment to this sector. We have to build on and reinforce that lead."

The summit will feature a range of presentations from government departments, a plenary session where the sector can engage directly with government and the educational establishments like Queen's and University of Ulster, and a series of breakout sessions formulated on the themes of access to funds, access to skills and access to markets.

It is hoped the summit will lead to an agreement across the executive to work more closely with the sector to enhance numbers and skills of graduates with ICT qualifications.
