Unions wants urgent talks

The Unite union wants urgent talks with Marks & Spencer over the reorganisation of its distribution network which could lead to 180 job losses at its distribution company DHL in Mallusk - and it is threatening industrial action if the retailer doesn't agree.

M&S is currently working through a "supply chain transformation" programme which has seen its network of 110 warehouses across Britain and Ireland trimmed to less than 50. This will ultimately be reduced to just three "super centres" in Donnington, Bradford and London by the end of next year. Unite says it welcomes the consultation with DHL, but says it is "clear that the decision is completely down to M&S", and it has requested urgent talks.
