Expansion hits pizza shares

PIZZA chain Domino's produced more strong sales and profits from the UK yesterday, although its shares were burnt on the cost of expansion in Germany. The delivery firm, which has 739 outlets in the UK, said its fledgling operation in the country will not break even until 2016 or 2017 after it decided to proceed more cautiously with its plan. The update on Germany offset underlying sales growth of 6.4 per cent in the UK, where half-year profits grew by 10.3 per cent to £23.2 million after Domino's generated nearly two-thirds of its business from online customers.
