Boutique hotel gets go-ahead

PLANNING permission was granted yesterday for a 17-bed boutique hotel at the grade B1 listed former Bank Building on Derry's Shipquay Street. "This is good news for Derry, where a total of 386 additional bed spaces have been approved this year," environment minister Alex Attwood said. "With the recent announcement by Lonely Planet that Northern Ireland is in the top 10 European travel destinations, this boutique hotel in the heart of Derry will enhance choice for tourists, business travellers and local people. I'm committed to the regeneration of Derry city as the economic heart of the north west. Planning decisions on hotels, Fort George, Ebrington, the Peace Bridge, the Science Park and more show a firm commitment to help shape this historic city now and in to the future."
