Belfast is to host its first Maritime Heritage Open Weekend - featuring walking tours and historical talks.

Running on Saturday September 10 and Sunday September 11, it celebrates Sailortown, which organisers describe as a part of Belfast that is a piece of living history.

There is no charge for any events or activities throughout the whole weekend.

People can immerse themselves in the lesser known and intriguing tales of Sailortown and the Port of Belfast, one of Belfast Hidden Tours' walking tours; or join the docker's tour led by S.H.I.P (Shared History Interpretive Project), and delve into the industrial and economic history of Sailortown.

Back at the Mission to Seafarers' Flying Angel Centre, people can enjoy a visual history of the docks, with a never-before-seen gallery of Sailortown photographs.

There will also be maritime themed craft workshops for adults and children, historical talks, food and refreshments including afternoon tea, plus some goodies to enjoy.

A highlight of the weekend will be The Belfast Story; a show featuring leading dancers from Riverdance and Lord of the Dance - the history of Belfast told through traditional Irish music, song and dance, with a contemporary twist.
