THE fact that the semi-reunited original line-up of Guns N' Roses were planning an Irish date has been one of the worst kept 'secrets' in rock for the past few weeks – however, few fans predicted that it would turn out to be a return visit to Slane Castle, a quarter of a century after the troubled LA band played what proved to be their last Irish gig for nearly 15 years at the height of the Use Your Illusion-era craziness.

Next June's show will see Axl, Slash, Duff and co (that's Dizzy Reed, Richard Fortus, Frank Ferrer and Melissa Reese, fact fans) bringing their Not In This Lifetime world tour to Co Meath, where they will join The Rolling Stones and U2 in the elite cabal of acts to have headlined Slane on more than one occasion.

Perhaps fellow US rockers Faith No More can be persuaded to join the 2017 bill along with a special reunion for long-defunct Kilkenny outfit My Little Funhouse in order to fully replicate the Slane 1992 line-up?

Whatever the final bill turns out to be, tickets are guaranteed to sell out faster than you can ask "where's Izzy?"
