EVERY pubescent punk in the land will have been up bright and early this morning to try and snag tickets for next summer's essential post-exams blow-out, Green Day in Ormeau Park.

Billie Joe Armstrong's Bay Area veterans will be ably supported by their peers and fellow US punk rock revivalists Rancid at what promises to be a lively al fresco engagement – all we need now is The Offspring added to the bill for a guaranteed teenage rampage (for those aged 16 and over anyway) and proper 1990's nostalgia ticket rolled into one.

Of course, Green Day actually have a new record out at the moment, the chart-topping Revolution Radio, an album which has seen the Berkeley-bred band back on track in the wake of Armstrong's much publicised personal problems and the lukewarm reception for their wildly uneven Uno!, Dos!, Tre! trio of LPs.

2017 also brings the 25th anniversary of their excellent second LP, Kerplunk (it's also the 21st birthday of Rancid's breakthrough And Out Come The Wolves, trivia fans), so perhaps they'll play some of that as well, just for the old farts in attendance.
