Coming up: Status Quo at SSE Arena, Friday September 28

Rick Parfitt (left) and Francis Rossi will have to wait a bit longer to play their last electric gig together

AS TERMINALLY unfashionable as they are thunderously loud, veteran rockers Status Quo shocked fans when they announced plans to retire their amplifiers this year in favour of going fully 'Aquostic'.

The victory lap for their full-bore show – billed as The Last Night of The Electrics – has already been marred by Rick Parfitt's massive-heart-attack-enforced retirement from live duties.

Irish stunt guitarist Richie Malone will be the man Piledrivering alongside Francis Rossi when the tour arrives in Belfast next Friday, but it's almost inconceivable that Status Quo would actually play their last ever rock set without the twin Telecaster attack of Rossi and Parfitt's signature double act.

While they await word of that joyous reunion, fans can enjoy a rare chance to see if the Quo can cut it without their resident wild old man of rock, plus a value-for-money-adding opening turn by fellow 1970s survivors Uriah Heep.
