DERRY-BASED band Wood Burning Savages have called on fans to vote for them in a competition that would see them take the stage at Electric Picnic.

The band is among 30 acts that have a chance of playing at the Cosby Stage at the prestigious festival as part of 2fm’s ‘Play The Picnic with Oxfam’ competition.

If successful, Wood Burning Savages – Paul Connolly and Aaron McClelland from Derry city, Magherafelt’s Shea Tohill and Dan Acheson from Holywood, Co. Down – will play alongside nine other acts.

The band have appealed to fans across the north to vote for them by test in the final round of the competition.

“The Wood Burning Savages strive every day to blow minds at festivals like Electric Picnic,” they said.

“It would be a joy to give the Cosby Stage an amazing rock set to remember. We're asking people across Northern Ireland to get behind us by texting that magic number!”

The ten finalists will be announced live on air on 2fm’s The Tracy Clifford show on Friday, July 29. The act with the highest number of votes overall will go on to play The Cosby Stage at the Picnic.

The act voted number one will also win a masterclass with Festival Director Melvin Benn on how to get festival bookings for their band and a masterclass with 2fm on how to go about approaching radio stations and obtaining airplay.

To vote for the Wood Burning Savages text PICNIC TO 70660. Text costs £1.50 plus network charge and Oxfam Ireland receives 100% of your donation.

Voters in the south text PICNIC9 to 50300 at a cost of €2. Voting closes at 12pm on Friday July 29.

Voters are automatically entered into a prize draw to win one of two pairs of weekend camping tickets to the now sold out Electric Picnic.
