POP star Adele is to begin her first tour in five years with two performances at the SSE Arena in Belfast.

The singer, whose album 25 has smashed an 18-year sales record held by Oasis, will play in Belfast's SSE Arena on Monday, February 29 and Tuesday, March 1 next year.

The 27-year-old will also play dates in a range of cities including Dublin, London and Glasgow before embarking upon a two-month European tour in late April.

It is the first tour by the star since 2011, when she was forced to cut her travels short due to the discovery of a haemorrhage on her vocal cord, which required surgery.

In interviews Adele had hinted she may not tour, citing stage fright, feeling lonely when on tour and being away from her family.

However, in a video on Facebook, she said: "I have been bluffing the whole time and I am so relieved to finally tell you I am of course coming on tour and I can't wait to see all of you there."

Her third album 25 has sold 737,000 copies in the UK and almost three million in the US since its release last Friday.

Oasis continue to hold the sales record for the first three days with their third album, Be Here Now, which registered 696,000 sales when it was released in August 1997.

Tickets for the concerts will go on public sale next Friday, December 4, although members of her website will be able to purchase seats from Tuesday.
