DVD of the week: Room

Jacob Tremblay and Brie Larson in Room

OUT now on DVD, Blu-ray and On Demand, Room is Irish director Lenny Abrahamson's superb adaptation of Emma Donoghue's best-selling novel about a kidnapped woman and her young son.

It features an Oscar, Bafta and Golden Globe-winning lead performance by Brie Larson as abductee Joy Newsome and a moving turn by newcomer Jacob Tremblay as Jack, her shy five-year-old who has never set foot outside the pair's titular four-walled prison.

Enhanced by his active imagination, 'Room' is literally Jack's whole world: however, when his 'Ma' decides it's time that they attempt a jailbreak by outwitting their captor 'Old Nick' (Sean Bridgers), the youngster must prepare himself to enter a world so full of strange people, places and things that it defies even his highly intelligent mind.

Featuring an excellent supporting cast including Joan Allen, William H Macy and Tom McCanus, Room is a gripping, heart-rending drama that combines the tense thrills of Joy and Jack's escape attempt with the emotional punch of their painful readjustment to freedom.

DVD and Blu-ray extras include 'making of' featurettes and a commentary track featuring Abrahamson, cinematographer Danny Cohen, editor Nathan Nugent and production designer Ethan Tobman.
