THIS eagerly anticipated TV series from Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger finally lands hits screens on Monday.

Set amid the colour, squalor, glitz and glamour of early 1970s New York, the HBO-produced Vinyl follows wheeling 'n' dealing record exec Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale) as he struggles to keep his floundering label American Century afloat at the dawn of punk, disco and rap.

Sharply written by Terence Winter (The Sopranos, The Wolf of Wall Street) and George Mastras (Breaking Bad), the show's handsome two-hour Scorsese-directed pilot introduces us to Richie's world of sex, drugs and rock and roll.

Vinyl's period details and pop cultural references are spot-on and there's a soundtrack to die for, yet bizarrely for a show with such sky-high production values it also features possibly the world's worst Robert Plant impersonation.

Other than that, it's fantastic: like The Sopranos for the CBGB's set.
