MAGHERAFELT native Paul Charles will read from his new book, St Ernan’s Blues, at its launch in Belfast this evening.

Crime writer Charles, author of the critically acclaimed Detective Inspector Christy Kennedy novels, is also a well known as a music promoter and talent agent in London, where he has lived since the 1960s; his clients have included John Lee Hooker, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Ray Davies, Planxty and Ry Cooder.

St Ernan's Blues, the third instalment of his Inspector Starrett series, sees the detective on a case in Co Donegal. The story is centred on an island 'retirement home' for priests, its exiled residents, who have been guilty of criticising the Church, purloining money or having over-friendly encounters with parishioners, now implicated in murder.
