DON'T put the 'poet in da corner' – not if you value the 'spitting power' of words: Renowned grime poet, performer and playwright Debris Stevenson brings her semi-autobiographical show Poet In Da Corner to Belfast's MAC theatre tonight, introducing audiences to a 'Technicolor world' where music, dance and spoken word collide.

Set in a strict Morman household between East London and Essex, a young Debris is given British rapper Dizzee Rascal's influential album Boy In Da Corner by her best friend SS Vyper, played by MC Jammz – and, after the very first listen, her life changes for ever.

Despite struggles with dyslexia, the young Londoner finds salvation in 'spitting' the power of words, while inner conflicts over her sexuality transform into new opportunities for exploration.

Jen White, Creative Programmes Manager, at the MAC, said: "We are thrilled to welcome Debris Stevenson's acclaimed play, Poet In Da Corner to the MAC.

"This Royal Court production explores race, authenticity, representation, sexuality and religion using grime, rap, poetry and movement. It is a play unlike any other to come to Northern Ireland."

:: Poet In Da Corner will run until Friday February 28. Tickets and showtimes via Themaclive.com
