AUGUST Craft Month gets under way this week with its annual showcase of local creativity – the perfect opportunity to meet and celebrate artists, designers and makers across the north via over 100 'hands-on' events.

August Craft Month's programme of workshops, exhibitions, festivals and talks will feature an eclectic collection of ceramists, textile makers, glassblowers, jewellery makers and others right across Northern Ireland.

This year there will also be a strong focus on mental health and wellbeing, demonstrating how craft can have a positive impact and open up meaningful conversations.

Highlights of August Craft Month 2019 will include; the Yarnfolk Festival of Wool in Whitehead; Adam Frew opening his ceramics studio to visitors, including a four-day pottery course; Field, the annual group exhibition of contemporary craft and fine art curated by Sharon Adams and inspired by the local landscape; Benefield Spencer Glass performing glassblowing demonstrations at its studio; North Down Craft Collective's August Craft Month Market and pop-up cafe; Ceramicist Anna Smyth’s The Dinner Party installation focusing on aspects of contemporary living and featuring contributions by photographer Nathanael Smyth and silversmith Joel Smyth.
