THE MAC will debut a new stage dramatisation of Irish childrens' favourite Under The Hawthorn Tree during tomorrow evening's Culture Night Belfast programme.

Based on the popular children’s book by award-winning author Marita Conlon-McKenna, Under The Hawthorn Tree follows Eily, Michael and Peggy O’Driscoll as they set out on a perilous journey during the Irish Famine in 1845.

Starving and faced with life in the workhouse, the trio are forced to fight for survival as they attempt to locate their long-lost aunts in a story of endurance at a defining moment in Irish history.

Now, Under The Hawthorn Tree is about to become a new stage production from top children’s theatre company Cahoots NI.

Written by Charles Way, directed by Paul Bosco McEneaney and with a live original score from Garth McConaghie, The MAC will be showcasing free 'pop-up' performances of the production between 5pm and 7pm tomorrow night prior to its opening on September 27.

The production is suitable for children aged seven and above.
