ONLINE magazine The Journal of Music has announced the six successful applicants to its new Northern Ireland Music Writer Mentoring Scheme.

Supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the scheme takes place over six months and aims to develop the next generation of writers for the music sector in the north.

The four writers, Aine Cronin-McCartney from Derry, Marc Gregg from Lisburn and Belfast based Laura Sheary and Stevie Lennox will take part in a workshops and then be assigned a music event to review.

This is the third scheme that The Journal of Music of music has launched following successful projects in Clare and Galway.

"The aim of The Journal of Music is to publish in-depth, informed writing for a broad readership," comments Toner Quinn, editor of The Journal of Music.

"Finding the words to capture the contemporary sounds we hear is always a fascinating and creative challenge. We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with new writers from Northern Ireland and document the incredible music that is coming out of the north."
