BBC Music's very own festival The Biggest Weekend will be taking place at the end of May, featuring large outdoor concerts hosted by various BBC 'brands' – including Radio 1, 1Xtra, BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music – in Belfast, Coventry, Perth and Swansea.

The Belfast concerts at Titanic Slipway on Friday and Saturday May 25 and 26 will be hosted by 6 Music with a bill including Beck, The Breeders, Ash, Manic Street Preachers, Public Service Broadcasting, Orbital, Franz Ferdinand, First Aid Kit, Courtney Barnett and Goldie.

The other cities are getting shows from the likes of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Billy Ocean, Snow Patrol, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and, er, Nigel Kennedy – and you'll be able to see them all thanks to extensive TV coverage on BBC TV and iPlayer a la their excellent 'why would you actually bother trying to get tickets?' annual Glastonbury festival coverage.

The Manics are already excited about playing another big outdoor show in Belfast, with a band spokesman (probably Nicky) saying: "The Biggest Weekend is in Belfast, which is good in itself.

"We’ve played there a lot over the years, we did one of the greatest gigs ever there back in The Limelight in 1990. And then we’ve had subsequently just lots of great gigs there, just amazing ones. It is good to spread 6 Music’s message far and wide."

Over 175,000 tickets will be available for the concerts, billed as "the BBC's biggest ever celebration of music across TV, radio, online and mobile".
