IT WILL be 40 years next Wednesday since Elvis Aaron Presley's career as one of the biggest musical superstars of all time came to an untimely end while he sat atop his porcelain throne.

However, while The King might be long dead, his legacy is still very much alive – even in Strabane, where The Alley Theatre is set to host a local celebration of all things Elvis tomorrow night.

On Saturday August 12, performers will come together to sing your Elvis favourites in The Alley's cabaret-style auditorium. Those taking to the stage will include Glen 'Harks' Harkin, Mark Carmichael of Camhanach, Nineteen 80 Something and Matthew Ward.

"I am sure everyone has a favourite Elvis song," says Jacqui Doherty, venue manager at The Alley Theatre.

"The acts performing have chosen their own favourite Elvis song and you can expect to hear their rendition of the hits Love Me Tender, Can't Help Falling In Love and Are You Lonesome Tonight.

"If you like Elvis, you will love this show."

Elvis devotees are encouraged to dress up as Mr Presley or his bride, Priscilla, and there will be prizes for best costumes.

The King is dead – long live The King.
